Another barbaric idea from Harriet Harman: targets for police and prosecutors to jack up rape convictions

Labour's deputy leader in the UK is at it again: "Ms Harman is understood to want a more radical overhaul of the law which could include targets for prosecutors and police to secure more convictions."

The comment I left on the Times Online:

As the founder of the leading internet site giving voice to victims of false rape claims, The False Rape Society, I find the suggestion of "targets for prosecutors and police to secure more convictions," in all its Star Chamber ramifications, to be among the most barbaric I have encountered.

This proposal mocks the image of blindfolded Lady Justice meting out justice in accordance with the facts of the particular case before the court. Ideological zeal that sweeps over the rights of the presumed innocent, and that pretends "justice" can be achieved by meeting quotas, has no place in the most advanced jurisprudence the world has ever known.

The notion of hitting targets for convictions blinks at the maxim handed down some 250 years ago by the celebrated English jurist William Blackstone: It is "better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer." (Commentaries on the Laws of England.) This principle not only is fundamental to our criminal jurisprudence, it is the hallmark of a civilized society, and it is has never been seriously challenged. Until now, that is.

Will the rights of innocent men and boys be jeopardized if police or prosecutors have difficulty meeting their rape conviction targets? The question scarcely survives it's statement.

Persons of good will the world over implore you not to allow Ms. Harman to politicize and defile the criminal justice system that has long been the model of civility throughout the world.

Here is one of the comments under the story I cite:

Barry PURKIS wrote:

The last Rape reported to me as a Police Sergeant was dealt with with full seriousness. At no time was the woman involved treated other than with complete respect. Her full examination was carried out by trained female officers and a specialist female Doctor of great experience. A large amount of money was spent on the full examination of the flat she lived in , the crime scene, to the extent that the flat needed redecoration, which would be at public expense. Halfway through the second day of investigations the woman admitted that she had made up the story to get back at her boyfriend after she found out he was 'sleeping around'. It was possible that if the investigating officer had not robustly questioned the woman she would have carried on the lie into court, with the danger of a miscarriage of justice. Perhaps someone could explain what else the Police can do! Perhaps Ms Harman could ensure that there is no chance that 'victims' lie. Perhaps she can ensure that Juries do not take such lies into account.

The law enforcement community is all ready perverting the course of justice, and is all ready meeting "new gender feminist" quotas.
The law enforcement community / in perversion with the "new gender feminist" community are all ready redefining what the meaning of is, is, in order to manufacture their 2% false rape propaganda. The unfortunate reality is that the real percentages of false rape accusations now are much higher than that.
This misinformation pre-judices the courts against innocent defendents, and is a stain / perversion on our U.S. constitution.

Pierce, brilliantly written; I don't think there is a more effective blog out there. This, not Glenn Sacks, is the leading Men's Rights blog for my money.

THIS IS HUGE (at least to my mind)!

One of the greatest obstacles to getting the police “on-board” in understanding the pervasiveness and insidious perversion of false rape claims is getting them to the place were they are more willin gto openly talk about such false claims.

Despite the beliefs of some here that the police are part of a larger conspiracy to railroad innocent men, the facts remain that the individuals who end up responding to, dealing with, and investigating rape claims are themselves only human – subject toe the same socio-political pressures as are many others outside of law enforcement.

One of the more disturbing of these pressures that they (the police) must constantly deal with that brought to bear on them by the denizens of “Political Correctness”. Any member of law enforcement risks much in expressing views which run contrary to the prevailing “view” demanded by aggressive feminists (and propped up by simpering, eager-to-please manginas who, unfortunately, have the power to do so). By virtue of the nature of their jobs, all law enforcement officers act as representatives of the governmental entities who employ them. And public statements they make are subject to enhanced scrutiny, and potential repercussions if they dare to step out of line – or worse, on feminist toes. Sergeant Barrry Purkis takes a significant risk in openly expressing the truth he has come to see during the conduct of his job. Whiny busy-bodied man-hating feminist might well soon come calling for his head. But...

He (and others like him) are starting to crack what WILL turn out to be flood-gates open. Once one, then, two, then a few more, them more and more begin to find their voices, and begin to talk openly about what their own personal experiences have taught them, the forces of feminist hatred will have an increasingly difficult time suppressing the truth as knowledge grows exponentially.

But, let me step down off my soapbox for a moment and return to addressing some of the specifics about the struggle to get the police (and by extension, prosecutors, etc.) to do a better job of protecting the rights of all – including those accused of the crime of rape.

Several obstacles to overcome in getting police investigators to do what needs to be done to uncover potentially exculpatory evidence.

First, there's plain old laziness. Pretty much self-explanatory. For some, it's a case of Occam's Razor, and the simplest explanation seems adequate – a woman has accused a man, nothing more to investigate.

Then there's the misunderstanding of the frequency with which women do lie about sexual assaults (and, of course, the many motivations they have for doing so). This one is still bigger than many might suspect. The canard of just 2% has been so often “drummed” into our collective heads that, for the most part, it IS taken as Gospel Truth. The individual human beings who join law enforcement are not somehow magically protected from the influence on such lies. As I've been arguing (on a previous thread) EDUCATION is going to be key. We simply cannot wait for each and every one of them to learn the truth fro themselves, we need to get the word out to them.

This site is uniquely positioned for that purpose. It provides a compendium of a vast (and growing) array of examples of objectively false rape claims. This serves to demonstrate just how frequent and wide-spread the problem of women choosing to endanger men for their own advantage really is. My desire would be to see members of police agencies coming to this site, gaining both the awareness of the issue as well as the desire to research it further, and (most importantly) sharing their new-found understanding with their fellow officers.

In the few words I have left , I'd like to leave you with this:

It's going to be damned near impossible to get cops to read what we discuss herein if they find their profession continuously insulted.

I agree completely, slwerner. If anything -- and I know some will recoil when I say this -- the police are the falsely accused's best friend in most cases. From what I can gather, they "handle" the vast majority of false claims without arresting a hapless male. There is a downside to this -- the false accusers aren't punished, but put yourself in the cop's shoes -- it's the only way to handle them.

As for this site being uniquely positioned, type in false rape on Google -- we're now number THREE. And rising. A year ago we weren't on the radar.

Hate-mongering Harriet is going to be this months recipient of the silver pomegranate and this will be one of her many sins to be listed.

Porky,

do you mean that she is coming under scrutiny from MP's? I read somewhere else (a reliable source) that she was.

Norm, the silver pomegranate is a symbolic "prize" that i hand out to the misandrist of the month at my website.
Sorry for the confusion, i shouldn't assume everyone knows that. I was tired from the gym!
