A Feminist’s Reaction to a Statue of a Fallen Male SoldierGuest Commentary by Noe Gyven-Tayke - I approach with trepidation the Women’s War Memorial sculpture in Washington, D.C. which depicts three uniformed women with a dying male soldier.
Will I be angry? Will I feel abhorrence? Will I regard it as just another monument to patriarchy?
I slowly walk toward the sculpture and see the noble women depicted. They are doing what all women have always done, and to no avail. They are trying to heal the destruction wrought by patriarchy.
And then I see the male. A 20-year-old injured and dying soldier, defiantly sprawled out, legs open as if flaunting his undeserved male privilege and organ of misogyny. I am filled with disgust and fall to the ground and vomit. I vomit not for me, but for all women.
Then I am ashamed, disgusted with myself, for feeling a fleeting moment of unintentional pity because the creature has been fatally wounded by – of course – another male, another beneficiary of patriarchy. The fatal shot came as the assailant and the dying male played their favorite sport of male bloodlust. Men have even given this sport a name to legitimize it: war. They play at war to become like women because war is the only way men can simulate menstruation.
I quickly assure myself that the creature deserves no pity, no compassion, no understanding. He has raped and mocked women all his life. He has used women’s bodies as his personal playground. He has viewed pornography of women forced to sell their bodies for men’s pleasure. He has snatched women’s dignity in jest.
Even though the particular male depicted in this statue did not do any of those things, he lies there dying vicariously for all males who have ever lived because he must answer for their hatred of women. It would have been far better if he had been aborted at the first sign of a penis on the sonogram.
The statue depicts an actual photograph taken in the Vietnam War. The male in the statue was a soldier named Matthew Tayke, and the scene depicts the moment of his death from combat injuries.
You see, I was his mother.

Don't panic -- it's a spoof. But spot on.

Matriarchies are irresponsible crime infested societies that have high prison populations.
I wouldn't have known it was a spoof if the article hadn't said so at the end.
Other anon: right. When are the feminists going to deliver the utopia that they promised? Four decades of feminism later and there's still lots of crime and millions in prison and wars breaking out. Since women have more votes, why hasn't feminism led to the perfect society that they claimed they would build?
Strangely enough, their constant incitement of gender hatred and lies has led to nothing but even more gender hatred and lies.
Did feminists promise utopia? Are you blaming feminists for men killing other men, women and children? It’s feminists’ fault for crime? How many feminists are there, exactly? Zillions? Men have been in charge since the beginning of time, and I see no utopia. If you guys are so great, why not show it instead of blaming your ills on women?

"I wouldn't have known it was a spoof if the article hadn't said so at the end."
The sign of great satire.
A spoof? but it could so easily be true (no joke - I have seen feminist writings in the same vein).
Anyone thinking this piece is far off from the way radicals think, consider this piece -- http://www.womensspace.org/phpBB2/2007/08/17/men-boys-sons-something-i-wrote-to-someone-i-love/ -- which includes this:
"Do I understand why a woman might say that if she had known her son would use pornography, she might have thought twice before going through with her pregnancy? Yes, I do."
And: "I propose a man tax because 95 percent of the violence in the world is committed by men, and yet women must pay, financially and in all sorts of ways, for the consequences of this violence anyway."
I will be accused of taking these statements out of context but I'm not. The fact that I choose not to quote the loony "reasoning" for these statements doesn't mean I took them out of context.
I agree with anon, I didn't initially see where it was a spoof.
It does not seem unusual for a feminist pig to put her hatred of the (imaginary) patriarchy ahead of the life of her own son (or brother, or father, or...)
p.s.
the statue is a joke, as anyone who knows Jessical Lynch hid behind male soldiers while supposedly committing a heroic deed will tell you. Show me a single instance where a woman has saved a mans life in such a setting (that is, heroically leaping into danger), Like from 9/11, in war, etc.
Norm, the statue is actually of nurses -- I'm OK with that. I am also glad when they built the Vietnam War Memorial in D.C. that they didn't insist on a woman marching with the men.
What do you guys do when men rape men and boys? I mean, your knee-jerk reaction is that the female is always lying, so does that mean that men and boy victims of men (oooh, can't call them victims, or can we since they're male?) get your support? Or do you still support the alleged rapist? Or do you just not ever talk about this because there are no women to blame and reconciling the two sides might cause a brain implosion?
Feminists share the blame for crime because they have produced a society littered with broken homes.
Jeana knows this, of course. She deliberately says dumb, hysterical things to get attention.
I ALWAYS support a skeptical attitude toward uncorroborated abuse claims, including those made by men and boys.
"I mean, your knee-jerk reaction is that the female is always lying . . . "
That's a lie, Jeana. Please don't lie on this site.
I regard every claim of rape the same -- with a healthy objectivity.
When men and boys are allegedly raped, it must be treated exactly the same way as when women and girls are allegedly raped.
P.S. You will find this impossible to believe but when a female teacher has allegedly raped a boy, I feel about her exactly the same as I do when a man is accused of rape. I detest the fact that the allegation is publicly aired -- I feel sorry for her and her family because the claim might be false. I detest the fact that there is a rush to judgment to assume her guilt. My ACLU inclinations tell me to fight for the woman accused in that instance, which I do.

That is excellent satire. I also thought it was real until I saw your comment at the bottom.
I have nothing but the highest regard for soldiers. In their eyes, they might be "just doing their job" (I know my granddad's attitude was exactly that when he learned he was being awarded the Bronze Star), but they do work I wouldn't dream of, and don't have the guts for.
Archivist,
Uh, I’ve only been here a few days but I’ve yet to see anything that gives any female the benefit of the doubt. At all. You automatically take the side of the guy. Which is why I asked how you guys would handle it if it was a boy alleging rape by a man. But no answer…
“Please don't lie on this site.” Why does this apply only to me? (Or do you think everything your MRAs say is the truth? LOL.)
Say, has there been any update on that FEMALE teacher who appears to have been falsely accused of rape and whom many of us MEN HERE were taking up for? http://falserapesociety.blogspot.com/2009/08/kentucky-teacher-fights-back-against.html
jeana is a feminist troll. Just like every other feminist, when a woman receives the same (ill) treatment a man would, she ascribes it to misogyny (when it is in fact the nearest thing to gender equality that can be accomplished). That's why she's here, trying to elicit anger that she can label "misogyny".
I hope there is a special circle in Dante's hell for feminists, deep down near the frozen center.

When we cover women accused of rape. Stop being such a fucking jackass.
"When we cover women accused of rape."
You've also covered gay men accused of rape - that guy who was exonerated of raping a man due to his having video of the consensual sex (can't seem to spot that link right off).
@jeana...
So as to encourage truth and clarity I would remind you that women are assaulted as often by women as by men and that women are the significant majority of the abusers of children.
What do you guys do when men rape men and boys?
Well I don't stand and applaud like many women do when a woman rapes or mutilates a boy or man.
Genius.
Perhaps too accurate for a spoof TBH.
I hope there is a special circle in Dante's hell for feminists, deep down near the frozen center.
* * *
As I recall, the eight circle was were Dante's hell stored the hypocrites and frauds, and those who spread lies for political purposes. The feminuts would probably end up there.
Maybe there could be an updated version of the Inferno with Nifong and Mangum being devoured continuously in Lucifer's jaws.
You are correct, slwerner.
I think feminists do have the same thoughts as expressed in this "spoof".
I have yet to hear one of my fellow soldiers state that the reason why they risk death isn't just for the " patriarchy". We took an oath without mental or moral reservation or purpose of evasion. Such suppositions are unfair and hurtful. If soldiers; both male and female knew this, I doubt they would want to continue to serve.
The sad thing is that we have to be told it is satire.
@Archivist
yes I thought of nurses, and the statue is okay based on that buy nurses don't typical leap into dangerous situations. They're more on the 'receiving' end, not on the front lines.
"Norm, the statue is actually of nurses -- I'm OK with that. I am also glad when they built the Vietnam War Memorial in D.C. that they didn't insist on a woman marching with the men."
Was that the march in 1985? I witnessed it and remember some of the vets in wheel chairs were being pushed by their s.o.'s. Not that said s.o.'s were soldiers.
the first paragraph above should say, "BUT nurses..."
Which is why I asked how you guys would handle it if it was a boy alleging rape by a man.
Jeana,
The same way that I would handle it the other direction. I let the police investigate and do their job. I wait for prosecutors to do their job. I evaluate the evidence of the case, and come to a decision. I don't automatically assume guilt or innocence of anyone involved.
You know..... the way it's supposed to happen.
One of the largest problems, is that the accuser is granted anonymity, while the accused (not convicted) is named for all to see.
The only person who is responsible for filing the false charge, is the person making the charge. They, and they alone, have the power to keep an innocent person from being unjustly prosecuted. ALL of the blame and punishment needs to be levied on the false accuser. PERIOD. To do otherwise, makes a mockery of everything our justice system is supposed to be about.
“Stop being such a fucking jackass.”
Stop being a bunch of whiny little wannabe victims. It’s a joke that you even pretend to want fairness in regard to rape claims. I’ve read too much of what Pierce writes to be fooled by his nonsense.
He he he he wha ha ha ha ha! (excuse me, trying to take Jeana seriously
(sorry, ain't workin')
