A funny thing happened on the the way to raise awareness about false rape claims -- we discovered we were also helping rape victims
"Those who enable false accusers by sticking their heads in the sand to further their own political or ideological ends are aiding and abetting the destruction of society's most important asset for stopping rape: the credibility of rape victims."
This is an important post. It is time to underscore something we've been building up to for two years -- this blog's alliance with rape victims.
This blog has taken some peculiar turns. At the outset, we recognized that victims of false rape claims have important interests that are being ignored, so we decided to write a serious article about it. We began collecting news accounts about false rape claims simply to track the problem, and to develop a library, primarily for our own personal use. We decided to do this in the form of a blog so that we could share our resources with others interested in the same problem.
Several things happened along the way, some expected, some very unexpected. We encountered the expected hate screeds from extreme feminists. That was, as I learned, unavoidable. Anyone who suggests that the falsely accused have special concerns is attacked in this goofy political climate. But more important, we quickly discovered that in story after story after story, a common concern expressed by judges and law enforcement officials and sexual assault counselors was the effect of the lie on rape victims. Some of those sentiments were expressed out of a political correctness that improperly placed the concerns of hypothetical rape victims over flesh-and-blood victims of false rape claims. But, the more that we read, the more convinced we are that a lot of those concerns are sincere. We all agree rape needs to be treated seriously, but with every false rape claim, that becomes much more difficult.
But then something astounding happened, something we weren't prepared for when we started. We began to hear from women who've been personally touched by rape -- and amazingly, they supported our work. Perhaps it shouldn't have amazed us, knowing what we now know. These women joined us in expressing their outrage for the false accusations, because they don't approve of hurting innocent people and because false accusations trivialize their own ordeals. For our part, we joined them in expressing our communion with their victimization.
It might surprise some readers to learn that, in general, we receive some of our most supportive communications from women. Perhaps this is because women have been instilled with fear about rape since childhood -- yes, much of that fear is irrational, but that's not their fault -- but they seem to appreciate better than most men the crucial importance of a woman's credibility, and they know it is her greatest asset should the need ever arise to legitimately cry rape.
I have preached from the outset that we are allied with rape victims. When I receive emails from men looking for help, and the events they describe sound to me like rape, I can't help them -- they need to go elsewhere for help because that's not what we do. It is not my goal to help rapists beat the wrap.
Our focus on this site is false rape claims, and false rape claims hurt their direct victims, the falsely accused men and boys. They also indirectly hurt every woman and girl who might someday need to legitimately cry rape. Rape is an awful crime, and it's "he said/she said" nature makes discerning the truth extremely difficult. It requires painstaking police work. In a perfect world, only rape victims would cry rape. We will never achieve perfection, but through a misguided politicization of sex crimes, our society has enabled false accusers to spin their lies -- and they not only hurt countless men and boys and even some women with their falsehoods, they slowly erode the credibility of rape victims, one lie at a time.
So what's the solution? Stick our heads in the sand? That's what some want us to do, and it's exactly the wrong approach. We can't pretend it doesn't happen. People see that it happens -- it's in the news, and people in the community hear about it. Jurors know about it, too, and it's impossible for them to leave their preconceptions at the courthouse door. Moreover, those of us who want to help false rape victims simply can't pretend it doesn't happen -- it isn't fair to ignore their victimization, as we've done for too long. In any event, ignoring the problem won't solve it.
So we need to do something about it. We need to hold the false accusers accountable for their lies and deter them much better than we do -- because only then will false rape claims be substantially reduced. And we need to better protect the reputations of the presumed innocent and to insure that they are not unfairly deprived of their liberty prior to an adjudication simply to appease politicized interests.
This site, in an unexpected way, is an important resource for helping rape victims. Those who oppose us -- those who enable false accusers by sticking their heads in the sand to further their own political or ideological ends -- are aiding and abetting the destruction of society's most important asset for stopping rape: the credibility of rape victims. Read that last sentence again and again. It is irrefutable. And let us be perfectly frank: some of those who oppose us do so for no reason other than the fact that we primarily help men. The good news is that a lot of women who were actually raped "get it" -- we are among your staunchest allies, and you need to ignore those who play gender politics and join with us.

Wow! Take that Marcella what's-her-name.
Rape advocates don't have the interests of rape victims at heart. How could they if they ignore the false rape epidemic? They are just girls pretending to be political activists. So many of those feminist sites fancy themselves to be crusaders for rape victims and women in general when their real focus is on shoving far left politics down everyone's throat, meaning insisting that the new health care law pay for abortions, gay marriage, how evil Wal-Mart is when it sells pink accessories for girls (a big no-no in their world), and how climate change impacts women more than men but men are the ones who caused it. When they get around to talking about rape, it's only to roll their eyes at any suggestion that women should take safety precautions.
I want to make something clear: Paid sexual assault counselors can and do serve very important functions in helping to guide young women who really are raped and who might otherwise have no clue about what they should do. The problem with sexual assault counselors -- and it's a big one -- is that many seem to be in a constant mode of fomenting rape hysteria, as if their livelihoods and funding depended on it (and, yes, perhaps their funding does depend on it). They are often among the principal deniers of false rape claims -- the ones who insist false claims are a myth. Their financial interest in the subject taints their public statements, and the stats many cite about false claims are terribly wrong, to the point of being dishonest.
The unpaid bloggers who write about rape are largely -- and there may be some exceptions here -- loony extreme left-wingers with a huge chip on their shoulders about men, especially white men. Most espouse quasi-Marxist views (and trust me, I don't say that lightly) -- they don't care for the free market, or Christianity, or any structure that men supposedly "control." I suspect most of them have this stereotypical view of white males that is pretty close to the stereotype they had of the Duke Lacrosse players -- gun toting, misogynistic,
Christian, out-for-sex, selfish, liars. The whole bit. The problem with them, aside from the fact that most of them are certifiably crazy, is that their every view is filtered through their loony political lens, and when you elevate your political views over people, actual rape victims are ill-served.
"but they seem to appreciate better than most men the crucial importance of a woman's credibility, and they know it is her greatest asset should the need ever arise to legitimately cry rape."
At the core of the rape claims issue is the credibility and integrity of the individuals involved. Legitmate rape claimants and the falsely accused alike know better than most men and women how much one's word means: our integrity and credibility is all we have. Justice, our reputation, and our freedom depends upon it.
Against the integrity and credibility of hapless individuals speaking the truth, we have a feminist propaganda machine that has subverted our legal system and never allows the public to cool off; never admits faults or wrongs; never concedes that there may be some good in men; never leaves room for alternatives; never accepts blame; and through believing that women never lie about rape, concentrates on one falsely accused person at a time and blames them for everything that goes wrong. As the feminists have discovered, like the fascists before them: people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if it is repeated often and frequently enough they will sooner or later believe it. Thus, our greatest allies are in fact those aligned with the truth: real rape victims and the falsely accused.
I look at it this way.
I have a family member that is a victim of medical malpractice. It has been decades of problems and is still suffering from off and on bleeding and other problems to this day. And this person never sued or attempted to sue or ever collected one penny for all this suffering.
So I have very well seen the effects of malpractice.
On the other hand I know a lady that had her whole life revolving around filing false malpractice lawsuits. At the time of her death she was supposedly suing 8 different people. Anyone that ever met her would tell you how awful of a person she was.
Now seeing both sides of an issue like this I think the lady that files the false malpractice claims is a total criminal and scum and should be in prison.
It's illegal to file a false insurance claim why is it legal to try to rip a doctor off for huge sums of money?
I would be glad to have a "false malpractice society".
So I can not understand why any legit rape victim would not love to have a site like this.
Very well said Anon at 9:14. You hit the nail on the head. It is in the interest of everything who values the truth -- everyone who understands it's power and importance -- to greatly reduce the false rape problem.
Bingo, Anon at 9:22.
Steve just put up a story that is set to run in a couple weeks about a university that just had its THIRD false rape claim THIS ACADEMIC YEAR. That means since September. Now if a young woman really is raped at the university, what's the first reaction everyone will have?
"Steve just put up a story that is set to run in a couple weeks about a university that just had its THIRD false rape claim THIS ACADEMIC YEAR. That means since September. Now if a young woman really is raped at the university, what's the first reaction everyone will have?"
Indeed. I'd love to see feminists try to wriggle out of this one.
Of course, they will never bring themselves to blame the women themselves, for making false claims.
They will say, well, rape is such an epidemic, that the falsely accused should just have admitted to it and taken the punishment, so that real rape victims won't be disbelieved. And if you find yourself falsely accused, you should 'admit' to it, because if it comes to light that your accuser lied, you will have contributed to the damaging of the credibility of rape claims as a whole.
I think this is actually what rape feminists beleive. They are -INSANE- and have no regard for justice, equality, freedom or truth.
Or, Snark, they would contend that false claims are just a drop in the ocean of actual rapes so false claims are not worth discussing. This is why there is so much discussion here about the prevalence of false rape claims, the unreliability of the Koss report, etc.
Your point is well taken. I don't recall a single rape blogger breathing a sigh of relief after Duke Lacrosse that three innocent young men would not spend decades in prison for a crime they didn't commit. What I saw was anger, and hysterical finger wagging about "something" must have happened in that house.
Was the entry about NOW and the Democrats taken down? I can't seem to find it.
10:09: Down for retooling. Sorry about that -- will be reposted. Since we can do it, we like to correct misstatements when we catch them.
I am glad that you have said this. I see no reason for people to not cooperate in raising awarness about rape and false rape claims. I read this blog and sometimes think there's too much concern about what "feminists" are saying. Here you are bypassing the feminists and going directly to the rape victims by telling them you are not the enemy.
Most paid sexual assault counselors and people working in the violence against women industry are also "loony extreme left-wingers", and many of them majored in women's studies. One of them emphatically told me "you should believe a woman even if she isn't telling the truth!!" There is no reasoning with such people.
". . . you should believe a woman even if she isn't telling the truth!!"
I love it! That just about says it all, doesn't it? Don't they see the extreme damage they do to rape victims when they espouse mantras that are, by any measure, nutty and unreasoned? THIS is the problem here. Their solution is not to deal with the problem but to insist it doesn't exist or simply to live with it. Ordinary people, judges and jurors won't do that.

If the truth were ever to be known, they never did. They only thought of their own selfish hateful interests, agendas and, crusades.
Anon at 10:39: The NY Times recently did an article about why liberals are drawn to professorships. When it comes to gender issues, there is a kooky left wing bias on the blogosphere.
I think we need to be careful in dismissing the utility of sexual assault counselors. Some rape victims do need help, but unfortunately, the counselors take the good they do and translate that into a society rampant with rape that women are either too scared or too stupid to report. YES, rape is a problem. But if you REALLY want to help eradicate rape, you'd help eradicate false rape claims because these liars are hurting the credibility of rape victims.
"Most espouse quasi-Marxist views (and trust me, I don't say that lightly) -- they don't care for the free market, or Christianity, or any structure that men supposedly "control."
Quasi-Marxist is the right characterization. These twits don't care for Marxism and they don't know anything about it. Marx wouldn't piss on them.
Right, Jim. It's a sort of New Age, anti-American/capitalism/white male/Christian/hetero philosophy that elevates womyn/childryn to god-like status. Nobody outside of academia and the one dark and twisted corner of the blogosphere takes most of it seriously, but on some core issues, NOW and it's ilk wield power disproportionate to their numbers.
This applies to both this entry and the political article that is being retooled.
Most women aren't feminists, and not all feminists are women. While more than half the population is female, feminists are a tiny -- albeit vocal -- minority that should be ignored. Trying to reason with feminists is like trying to teach a pig to sing. It's a huge waste of time.
Instead there are four things worth doing that would be much more productive. Firstly, appeal to actual rape victims who feel alienated by feminists who only want to politicize and exploit their suffering. Secondly, appeal to Conservative/Republicans that current legislation, such as the VAWA, is unconstitutional, and not prosecuting false accusers ignores the rule of law. Thirdly, appeal to Liberal/Democrats that the current law is especially unfair to minorities, such as African-Americans, and that current policies based of feminist ideology do not benefit or represent the interests of women, especially poor and minority women.
Fourthly, we need to stress that feminism is pro-rape. By refusing to recognize and oppose false accusations of rape, feminists take law enforcement and judicial resources away from real victims and put communities at risk. By defending false accusations, feminists undermine the credibility of all women. By elevating false accusers, they shame and silence actual victims. By telling women that they will not be believed and supported by the authorities, feminists discourage real victims from coming forward, allowing their assailants to commit more rape.
Yes, feminism is pro-rape. As paradoxical as that might seem, once one realizes that feminists want to vilify all men as a group, and have little concern for the welfare of individual women, it becomes obvious that not only increasing the perception of rape (by producing bogus statistics, expanding definitions, etc.) but increasing actual rape works towards that end.
"NOW and it's ilk wield power disproportionate to their numbers."
According to Wikipedia, NOW has 500,000 members, and the U.S. population is 308,000,000, so that is .16%.
"I read this blog and sometimes think there's too much concern about what 'feminists' are saying. Here you are bypassing the feminists and going directly to the rape victims by telling them you are not the enemy."
Yep. That's the idea -- the women I hear from don't relate to the kooky things I read on the blogosphere (among other things, big long discussions about, for example, consent, a subject long settled under law). The women I hear from aren't "activists," they have concerns they've learned first-hand.
We try not to react to the nutty things on the blogosphere - Marcella just did a lengthy post about me, but I have not read it. I was told about it by a reliable source, and the less I know the better.
NOW has 500,000 members? Hmm, what does it take to be a member? Give your email address?

I absolutely agree.
If rape ends, "women's oppression" ends.
Hence the falsification of statistics, etc. - they NEED there to be this problem, else they become irrelevant. The bigger the problem appears, the more relevant they appear.
Statements like the one quoted above - "you should always believe the woman, even when she is lying" - say it all. This isn't about helping women. This is fanatical misandry. They want men to suffer - innocent, guilty, it doesn't matter. They consider all men to be 'guilty', and all deserving of punishment.
There is feminism and there is Feminism. The feminists who profess interest in rape are, in my experience, radical feminists. They are guided by a Byzantine ideology that is premised on the subjugation of women, and misandry is a big part of their shtick. They hide behind catch phrases and mantras such as "victim blaming" and "slut shaming" and "women don't lie about rape" -- when all of these, taken to their logical extreme, don't help with the rape problem. They're much more interested in advocating a political, anti-male agenda, and obtaining funding by fomenting rape hysteria, than in solving a problem.
I don't want us to be sidetracked by these fools, and I'm not especially interested in analyzing them. We need to address our issues, which will help the falsely accused and rape victims.
Archivist - "There is feminism and there is Feminism. The feminists who profess interest in rape are, in my experience, radical feminists."
Many men, and most women are feminists to one degree or another, but feminism is a "big tent" running from gender equality to outright female-supremacism.
Those who typically seek to stir up discord are often referred to as gender-feminists as a way to distinguish them from equity-feminists
This post reminded me of a comment made at Stand Your Ground Forums, by a poster named "D":
"Feminists don't care about rape victims, even if they claim they do or even if they believe they do. I've said it a million times, I guess I'll say it again, they are fundementally working contrary to their desired results. Not because of a mistake, but because of "brainwashing" tactics employed in their training methods that unfortunatly they are completly unaware of as well as in complete denial of."
This is why I am convinced that one of the greatest threat to women is Feminism, in its modern form. Feminism, generally, does not care about men or women, but for Feminism, first and foremost. And if it'll bring both sexes down just so Feminism can save face, then that's what it will do.
This post influenced me out of my six-day slump ...

Steve and archivist, thank you sir for you're work in this area.
I could have spent tens of years in jail over my false rape accussation, and it wasn't the legal community that protected the innocent..It was a fluke case of she could not keep her lies straight.
If men want to protect the innocent men/ boys of this country..the bold my speak the truth.Speak the truth..and the truth will multiply!!
edit...my = must
Scott,
Again, our thanks goes out to each and every one of our readers. Specifically, those, such as yourself, who have been falsely accused. I think I can speak for Pierce, when I say that I wish there weren't situations such as yours, that necessitate this site.
And you are 100% correct. Speak the truth, loudly and often. It is the only way that the message will be heard.
You know, a good thing about living in the United States is that since we pretty much started this whole feminism thing, we're also one of the first countries to take it too far, stealing away men's rights, and we'll probably be one of the first to start giving them back.
"If you are a feminist and you are reading this, know that history shall judge you. There will come a day when what you are is recognised, and when 'feminists' is uttered in the same sentence as 'Nazis' and 'the Ku Klux Klan'. Yours shall be a legacy which humanity looks back on with the same sense of shame. Future generations shall know that you hid behind a veneer of altruism, while you propagated the lies that led to the imprisonment, assault and murder of innocent men; all for money and the satiation of hate. They shall know this of you".
- Snark
AMEN! To this many of their victims, both male and female, shall testify.
That was an extremely AWESOME post! Very true and spot on.
"Those who typically seek to stir up discord are often referred to as gender-feminists as a way to distinguish them from equity-feminists."
Afaik, Christina Hoff-Sommers invented those turns. As far as the U.S. is concerned, there is no such thing as "equity feminism" since that goal has already been achieved. I'm against slavery, but that doesn't make me an abolitionist.
"I think we need to be careful in dismissing the utility of sexual assault counselors. Some rape victims do need help,"
I'm not dismissing the utility of sexual assault counselors. Rape victims do need help. However, there is no utility in having these counselors be extreme ideologues. It shouldn't be part of their job.
I also have no doubts in the utility of firefighters, but there is no benefit in having them believe that most fires are unreported or that an alien mind-control satellite is trying to burn down civilization.
One problem is that most of these places are run by feminist kooks who only hire other feminist kooks based almost entirely on their political qualifications. Another problem, is that while almost all of these places are publicly funded with tax dollars, they are subject to extremely little government oversight. A frequent criticism of the VAWA is that it keeps track of who gets the money, but not what they do with it.

Uh, that should be "terms" not "turns".
Archivist,
Many feminists may be man-haters, pro-victimization, etc, but not all. Like me: people call me a "3rd wave" feminist because I'm a rape advocate. I'm a rape advocate because I was raped, but I'm not a man-hater, nor am I pro-victimization. I love men.
Not all feminists and rape advocates are this or that way or believe in extreme views.
And yes, it truly bothers me when people lie about rape; just another person starving for attention. And it puts so many survivors' credibility into question--false rape accusers have no idea the pain a rape can cause, not just physically. To lie about it is sick and twisted and a complete insult to the people who really were raped.
AixelA: Thanks very much for your comment. Points very well made. Please know that we have the utmost respect for your victimization, and we agree with you.
We also agree about feminists -- most people, and all sane people, ascribe to the classic feminist view of equal opportunity for all people and treating everyone with dignity as full human beings regardless of gender. The term, however, has become so loaded and divisive, and it means so many different things to different people because there's no consensus aside from what I said above, that it would now be useful to move beyond it. Everyone, regardless of gender, needs to have the same opportunity to succeed and to strive for happiness, and that principle should be the polestar to guide all of these discussions.
AixelA, I respect what you are saying.
I think I'm in the same position as Archivist, though, regarding the use of the term 'feminist'.
Of course, I don't pretend that I can tell you which terms to use or not use. But let me put it this way ... somebody who self-identified as a socialist in Russia in 1920 probably doesn't have much in common with somebody who self-identified as a socialist in Russia in 1960. Things had changed so much by that point that the context in which the term was used had undergone its own revolution, so to speak.
On this particular issue, at least, you seem to have more in common with us (who often self-define as anti-feminists) than with modern self-defined feminists. And I would agree with Archivist, that what we value is indeed the 'classic feminist' idea of equal opportunity between the sexes.
But 'feminism' has undergone such changes since the time of 'classic' feminism, that it no longer subscribes to that idea.
Modern feminism favours the eternal victimisation of women, and the stirring up of animosity towards men - all men, not just rapists. I doubt we'd be complaining if modern feminism reserved its wrath for those men who sexually exploit women. But it doesn't - it seeks to blame all men for the crimes of a few.
So, by using this label, you are, intentionally or not, allying yourself with those people.
I would suggest that 'gender egalitarian', although a bit of a mouthful, is probably a less ambiguous label; there can be no room for doubt as to what a gender egalitarian believes!
But, as I said, I cannot tell you which term to use to describe yourself. My only concern is the ambiguity. 'Feminism' is a very murky term.
Snark,
It is a very murky word, but i doubt my fellow college student know what a "gender egalitarian" would mean and just disregard it by calling me a nerd or whatnot. Silly party-oriented, 20-something college students.
Anyway, people just call me a feminist because I work for RAINN, which is a feminist thing to do, aparently.
And Archivist, I appreciate your comment. :)
That begs the answer to these questions:
Are women who work for RAINN "insane"?
If not, how do you distinguish the sane advocates from the insane advocates?
How do you define "acceptable" feminism? Like where do you draw the line?
Nancy, no, women who work for RAINN are not insane. I subscribe to the classic feminist values, but that term has been co-opted by all sorts of people who do it a disservice (e.g., separatists -- some loony man-hating in that crowd). But I am not hung up on labels. A hell of a lot of rape activists do very important work, and I want the men's movement to become involved in it. But there is a disturbing trend among the paid sexual assault advocates to put their heads in the sand when it comes to liars who hurt the credibility of rape victims. They do this not out of animus, but their objectivity is clouded by their financial interest in chalking up numbers (e.g., Berkely was the tip of the iceberg).
My goal here is very, very narrow, and my expertise in this one little area is deep. I want to air the false rape problem to raise awarness about the needs of the the falsely accused that aren't being addressed, and to boost the integrity of rape victims. You want to reduce rape? This is one important way to do it. As it is, it doesn't ring true to say to the public "you must believe women when they claim they were raped" given the prevalence of false claimants (and I am aware of every serious study ever conducted on the subject). I come into direct contact with so many people (especially their mothers -- they're the ones who usually write to me) who've been destroyed by false accusers that I know it's real problem. Juries know it, too.
I also hear from rape victims who are absolutely outraged that these liars are given license to do this. They are hurting everyone who ever truly has need to cry rape.
I am TOTALLY in sympathy with people like AixelA. I applaud her involvement. If I can succeed in getting people to take the false rape problem more seriously, I'll not only help the men, boys, and women who are falsely accused (and, yes, contrary to popular belief, women are falsely accused, too -- we advocate for them here, too), in my small way, I'll help enhance the integrity of every woman and girl and guy who ever has the need to cry rape. I have zero interest in a politicized gender war. I care about innocent victims, and I care about rape victims, and false rape claim victims. Don't know how to say it any plainer.
Funny thing about RAINN is that it was co-founded by Tori Amos, who could be considered the world's most famous false rape accuser. Although, afaik, she never named anyone or reported anything to the police. Her big claim to fame is that she had the courage to speak out after being raped.
Then her story, as stated in one generally-ignored interview, was that she was abducted by a man and forced to sing at knife-point. Which, even if true, most people wouldn't consider rape.
She also claimed she wrote that song about being raped at gunpoint after watching "Thelma and Louise", but as it turns out, her story is more like "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".
Even funnier is that the owner of this blog claims he wants to befriend real rape victims, and then idiots like the 11:18 declare Tori Amos a False Rape Accuser.
hmmm, how is this proposed partnership supposed to work ?
Amos was abducted and raped by a fan in 1984.
NO, she didn't name the rapist or report the crime. So what's your point, Anon? Most women don't report rape.
You are also discounting one of the most important things a woman can do after being raped:
SPEAK OUT! It takes a hell of a lot of courage to do that.
The idea of an alliance with true victims is just not feasible until the women-haters and liars are weeded out.
Anon 11:18,
Would you have a link to that interview?
NannyBritches,
Sadly, you too are part of the problem. We don't moderate comments here, unless they are outrageously over the top, and my opinion, as well as Pierce's aren't the exact same as everyone that comments on the site. You take her claim of rape as gospel, even though, it sounds as if there is absolutely no proof that it happened, other than she says it did.
We see that every day on this site, and they turned out to be false claims.
I personally don't know if she was or wasn't, but with no way to back up her claim, I can't say that it did, or did not happen. I make no judgments either way.
I'm the other blog owner and founder of this site. I agree about the women hating.
You need to understand something: we have a lot of falsely accused guys reading this site. They don't all suffer trauma in the same way, but the one thing I hear over and over again from almost all of them is that they can't trust women. I tell them the same thing -- their feelings, though common, are not rational and that most guys get over it as time passes. I urge all of them to seek whatever treatment is necessary because it is a terrible thing to go through life not trusting half the population. Rape victims often say the same things about men. Awful. And, yes, we also have a few angry commentators who have been through a bad divorce, etc. but say irrational things that lump all women into the same stew with the bad woman they just broke up with. Trust me, some have felt the wrath of my disgust for their views -- with language I will not print here -- in emails. I don't tolerate hatred for any birth class.
Please know that Steve and I can't even read all the comments, much less moderate them.
"You are also discounting one of the most important things a woman can do after being raped:
SPEAK OUT!"
One of the principal reasons so many people agree they do not speak out in sufficient numbers is that they fear they won't be believed. Every expert -- feminist, non-feminist, whatver -- agrees that false accusers hurt women and keep rape victims from coming forward.
"The idea of an alliance with true victims is just not feasible until the women-haters and liars are weeded out."
Well, understand this -- the haters don't speak for me or Steve. We are on a mission and rape victims are already joining us. If the rape bloggers, etc. who deign to be their leaders don't want to join us (maybe we have cooties because we're guys) that's their choice. The only people we can control are ourselves. And if the haters want to join in our mission, they need to ditch the misogyny. There's no compromise on that issue.
But, you know, by the same token, we don't appreciate it when women lump us all together, like we're all part of some club that plots against women at our secret meetings at the urinals.
P.S. I need to note this: Nancy said this: "Even funnier is that the owner of this blog claims he wants to befriend real rape victims . . .."
Let's get this straight: I wish I could claim it was my noble idea to extend an olive branch or whatever you think I did. That's not how it happened. They came to ME. They sought ME out. They told ME that they joined in our mission -- they hate the false accusers, too. So I did a lot of serious soul-searching and realized that my silence about rape victims could be construed as insensitivity, and I know that is wrong. The rape victims are right. We ARE allied. I'm not offering an olive branch, I'm admitting to something that I should have seen from day one. They opened my eyes, and the tone of this blog has changed. Please understand that the rape bloggers have never shown any interest in this issue, and that, too, is their choice. They are wrong, but this America, and the great thing about America is that we're allowed to be wrong.
The commentator NannyBritches has been banned for hate speech. I am sick of the shrill man-hating banshees who come here looking for a fight. She should be ashamed of herself for harboring false rape accusers -- she does a disservice to actual rape victims.
