And, of course, the obligatory statement by her attorney that she was having personal difficulties and was "somewhat" depressed. Anything to keep her from taking responsibility for her crimes, I guess.
Faye Branighan faces prison sentence for 2 false rape allegations
A WOMAN who made two false rape allegations to detectives in a matter of days will face a possible prison sentence when she returns to court next month.
Faye Branighan was due to discover her fate today but had failed to keep appointments with probation service officials to compile background reports.
Branighan will now be sentenced on February 12 for two charges of doing an act intending to pervert the course of justice between last August and September.
The 20-year-old, of Rounton Green, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to the charges of reporting the fictitious crimes at a crown court hearing in November.
She will see a probation official on Monday, and was told by Judge Peter Bowers: "If you fail to do so, probation will tell us, and you will be locked up."
The first allegation was made against an unknown man between August 14 and September 24, and the second was against a named man between August 24 and September 24.
Branighan's barrister, Brian Russell, said she had personal difficulties and was "somewhat depressed" when she made the false claims.

UPDATE:
A YOUNG mum is now behind bars after having consensual sex with two men on the same day then making false rape claims against them both.
Faye Branighan from Middlesbrough was sentenced to eight months in a young offenders’ institution for making fictitious reports of rape.
At Teesside Crown Court yesterday, Judge Brian Forster QC said the 20-year-old’s actions had “severely affected the lives” of the two men whom she accused of raping her in her home on August 14 last year.
She had wasted 154 hours of police time.
In the first complaint, Branighan told police that an Asian man had pushed her into her house on Waterloo Road then raped her in the sitting room.
She claimed she had then stayed at home for the rest of the day.
“Police conducted inquiries and recovered CCTV from the shops on the street where she lives showing her at the shop in the late afternoon with another female chatting and consuming alcohol,” said Ian Mullarkey, prosecuting.
“Clearly that was inconsistent with the account she had given to police.”
The girl she had been with was interviewed and told police, who said she was with Branighan most of the day.
“She said when the Asian male arrived, he and Branighan went upstairs and seemed to engage in consensual sexual intercourse,” said Mr Mullarkey.
When questioned later, Branighan admitted she had not be raped by the Asian male but then went on to make a second allegation.
She claimed that after the first encounter she went out drinking with friends in Middlesbrough, met two men and took them back to her house.
“She said one left and the other one forced her on the sofa, pulled her trousers off and raped her,” said Mr Mullarkey.
Both men were traced and arrested and further inquiries were made which indicated that the second allegation was also false.
Brian Russell, defending, said that Branighan was “uncharacteristically promiscuous” on that day as she was suffering from severe depression.
“It’s very hard to explain quite what was going on in Faye Branighan’s mind when she spoke to police,” he said.
The encounters, he said, were very brief.
“When they had finished they left Ms Branighan straightaway,” and “left her feeling distressed with her own behaviour” he added.
Mr Russell said he did not wish to criticise the complainants but said their behaviour was “unchivalrous”.
But Judge Brian Forster QC said a clear message must be sent out to prevent other people making false rape claims.
“Cleveland Police do everything they can to give support to rape victims,” he said.
“It’s right and it’s common sense that their time should be directed at those who need such help and support following real incidents.”
Branighan, who has a two-year-old son and was living at Rounton Green at the time of going to court, wailed as she was led away to prison.

Obligatory! Yes, it seems that this is exactly what has come to be the case.
Hey, as long as it continues to get reduced penalties for women, we can absolutely expect that we will continue to hear that every women found to have committed the crime, was suffering some sort of "mental issue" at the time she made an FRA.
Fortunately, she still faces punishment for her FRA's, even if it's been delayed another month.
Still, I'm going to have to bring up (one of) my pet peave here. Other than that she was "somewhat" depressed, we are given no other motivation for her actions. Again, this could well lead to some getting the misimpression that FRA's come primarily from crazy women, and not as a result of a cold, calculated, and self-serving plan.
IMHO, this tends to leave the real perp, the FRA, looking far too sympathetic.
The woman who makes an FRA with the clear-headed intent of attention, revenge, alibi and/or money can be seen simply as a poor tortured soul, unable to grasp the harm that could be done.
Well, some BS is quite effective.
slwerner:
Its not BS, its not being "somewhat depressed", its nothing to do with "personal difficulties".
This can all be summed up in a single phrase. Its called the Pussy Pass. And its a miracle worker.
Obviously I can only speak with any deep knowledge of my own case...
but... my FRA is clearly afflicted with a severe Cluster B Personality Disorder, at the BPD/NPD end of the Cluster B spectrum.
I strongly suspect that most FRAs are not too dissimilar.
Should this be a reason to go lightly?
No, on the contrary, if we have a clear reason then we must deal with that reason, so not just a prison sentence for making a FRA, but legally mandated mental health treatment upon release, as part and parcel of the ongoing "licence" applied to released prisoners, eg break the terms of the licence and go back to jail and serve all the time you got off for "good behaviour".
It is my considered opinion that the undiagnosed 5% of the female population that are presumed to be suffering from a severe Personality Disorder are responsible for 99% of all false accusations to the police, this includes accusations of domestic violence and accusations made as part of a "messy" divorce / separation / child custody battle that do not feature allegations of sexual abuse or domestic violence.
Chemical cosh the lot of them.
As another falsely accused, I completely agree 100% with AFoR about those with cluster B personality disorders being the primary source of false rape claims. There are plenty of studies, articles, and data to support the claim:

"OVERREPRESENTATION IN FORENSIC SITUATIONS
Two things cause individuals with borderline pathology to be overrepresented in some civil and criminal forensic populations, and in correctional populations. First, the clinical characteristics already mentioned lend themselves to problems with or for other people, in couples, families, social interactions, work environments, doctor-patient relationships, and institutional living situations. Those problems often become serious enough to warrant some legal action, or contribute to the individual’s becoming involved with the law. Second, although their attitudes and behaviors are often pathological, individuals with borderline symptoms (not always “patients” in forensic matters) are usually healthy enough to be involved in the whole panoply of human experience—relationships, work, society—rather than being routinely sequestered or left out of it as a person with schizophrenia might be. Thus these individuals are exposed to all the areas of life in which forensic issues may arise and can, among other things, enter a forensic process by themselves (e.g.by complaining about a perceived wrong, seeking a lawyer to file a malpractice suit, or planning and executing a criminal act)."

That someone can have a personality disorder and also be vindictive, cold, calculating, and self-serving is not mutually exclusive. It also does not mean that all cold, calculating, and self-serving women are by definition suffering from personality disorders (but it does beg the question considering that personality disorders are overrepesented in civil and criminal cases).
