I'm going to make this post as blunt and as to-the-point as I can. There's a wicked game being played by what is aptly described as the sexual grievance industry -- radical feminists and paid members of the sexual assault community. Its purpose is to pretend that false rape claims are largely a myth, which justifies ignoring the needs of the falsely accused and focusing solely on jacking up rape convictions.
Here's how the game is played: when discussing the prevalence of false rape claims, only include among "false" claims those that police are able to rule out as "false" in its initial investigation, and pretend the rest are actual rapes.
Read that last sentence again because as blatantly dishonest as that sounds, that's what's going on here.
Before we explain, let's understand the terminology used by the sexual grievance industry: "sexual assault cases are 'unfounded', if after a thorough investigation, they are determined to be false or baseless." It's fair to say that for both "false" and "baseless" claims, evidence is required to conclusively rule out rape. "False claims" differ from "baseless claims" in that for "false claims" a motive to deceive can also be shown. http://www.svfreenyc.org/survivors_factsheet_84.html
Thus, the sexual grievance industry explains that the following are not sufficient reasons to declare a claim either "false" or "unfounded": not being able to locate the victim; victim is uncooperative or won't follow through with prosecution; victim repeatedly changes her/his account of the rape; victim recants; and no assailant can be identified. http://www.svfreenyc.org/survivors_factsheet_84.html
Let's assume for the sake of argument that this terminology is appropriate. Does that mean that cases dropped for any of those reasons cited in the preceding paragraph were necessarily actual rapes? How about cases dropped for any other reason? How about cases that end up in trial where the defendant is exonerated -- were they necessarily actual rapes?
It absolutely does not mean that any of those were necessarily actual rapes, but the sexual grievance industry would have you believe they were.
Think I'm kidding? The sexual grievance industry says things like this: "Only 2% of all rape claims are false." Check it out -- it's all over the Internet. The implication is that the other 98% of rape claims are necessarily actual rapes, and that's as dishonest as it can possibly be.
The two percent (by the way, that number is typically much higher, depending on the jurisdiction) represents only claims for which the police conclusively ruled out rape in its investigation. It does not mean the other 98% were actual rapes. I don't know how much more clearly I can say it.
The fact is, we are reasonably certain a certain percentage of rape claims are false; we are reasonably certain percentage of rape claims were actual rapes. But for most claims -- claims in the vast middle area -- we have no idea whether they were false claims or actual rapes. To assume they were all rapes simply because police didn't have conclusive evidence to rule them out during its investigation (as the sexual grievance industry suggests) is a blatant lie.
The only fair way to discuss the prevalence of false claims is to talk only about the universe of claims for which we know, with reasonable certainty, whether a false claim or a rape occurred. And if we do that, by any measure, false rape claims are a significant percentage of the total.

The UK classifications, and as translated by a rape squad officer.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7496013.stm
• “insufficient evidence” – No evidence, none at all, that any crime was committed.
• “victim withdrawal” – Complainant trips over their own lies at interview.
• “victim declined to complete initial process” – Complainant just wanted alleged rapist to be
arrested.
• “offender not identified” – The anally probed alien abductee, every human being anywhere
near the alleged crime scene clearly innocent. This one really made the police person angry,
“We never, ever, ever drop a case just because we have not identified a suspect. Never.”
• “false allegation” – Complainant deliberately and maliciously accused a specific known (to the
complainant) and named individual of rape.
• “no evidence of assault” – Complaint has a case of morning after regrets.
• “no prospect of conviction” – Complainant says something in interview that will get case
thrown out, e.g. admits to consensual behaviour.
• “not in public interest” – Complainant almost certainly was raped, but cannot face a trial and
wishes to simply get on with life.
• “other / unknown” – None of the above. Often means complainant was drunk / stoned and
unable to give any coherent account of anything.
"The game is this: when discussing the prevalence of false rape claims, only include among "false" claims those that police are able to rule out as "false" in its initial investigation"
In practice, they don't even include those.
"The two percent represents only claims for which the police conclusively ruled out rape in its investigation."
Actually, as far as anyone can tell, the two percent figure was made up out of thin air. So it doesn't represent anything.

"In the advert, which is being broadcast for the first time on Monday evening, a woman is shown asking a shop assistant to help her decide which skirt to buy.
She tells the assistant: "I'm going out tonight and I want to get raped. I need a skirt that'll encourage a guy to have sex with me against my will.""
Hilarious, since that is arguably how some 'victims' actually think.
Always remember, the greatest female fantasy ... the subject of all those romance novels aimed at, and bought by the truckload by, women ...
Get gender feminist perverts and their missinformation out of our legal system.
The world may ask, How did the Gender / Raunch community become so powerfull in the United States?? And i tell them it was the strategic usage of faulty and inflamatory "manufactured statistics" that attacked all hetero-sexual males..that left a huge vacuum in society that the Gender / Raunch community quickly filled.
I'm not arguing the false rape stats as I agree they are much higher than typically allowed.
But I do want to throw in the vast number of unreported rapes, where women simply do not come forward. Whether through shame, fear of the legal system, fear of stigma, fear of what family/friends would say/think/do...
I could POTENTIALLY believe that of ALL actual rapes (a number we can never know) that false reported rape in comparison would be very low. Of course, I have as much data to back me up as, um, nobody...
Social worker, I personally suspect that false claims (made to police, threatened to the "perpetrator," made in school, made to friends, etc.) likely surpass actual rapes, maybe by a long run. Think about it this way: to rape someone takes an awful criminal mentality and the use of force, and the perp knows if caught, it's the end of his life. It's like murder -- very few people would do it. A rape lie, on the other hand, as we've seen over and over and over, is very easy to make, and the liars generally think their lies are foolproof, that they won't be caught. Many also don't realize that it is a serious thing. My suspicion is that it happens more than rape and every serious crime combined, even burglary.
I further submit that if, indeed, there is "underreporting," the primary reason most women don't "come forward" is that they are not sure if a rape was committed. Remember the infamous Koss report? If the "victims" aren't sure they were victimized, why should we assume their "rapists" know they are raping? Answer: we shouldn't. When no one knows a crime occurred, that sort of "crime" scarcely deserves to be called a crime.
A serious law review article recently explained that the underreporting field is so terribly politicized that it is impossible to know if underreporting even exists to any serious degree.
With all that said, isn't it time we scrap the Oppression Olympics and start working together to EDUCATE both women and men about what consent REALLY means; about the studies that show women suffer much higher ex post facto regret after one-night stands; about communication? And quit pretending there are no false rape claims/rapes? Let's start focusing on VICTIMS -- regardless of the crime -- you know, start to really DO something instead of standing around talking about what victims we all are? Hmm?
P.S. I'd appreciate it if we keep our focus here to FALSE RAPE CLAIMS. Rape is a serious problem. So are false rape claims. Why must we go down this same path constantly? I am fairly tired of repeating the same points over and over and over.
But I do want to throw in the vast number of unreported rapes, where women simply do not come forward.

There is no vast number of unreported rapes. That is a feminist fairy tale and I for one am tired of hearing it.
The real 'vast unreported pool' of crimes is the epidemic of false rape accusations -- and convictions of innocent men.
Fair enough. I will temper my comments to the focus of the blog (assuming you meant me?).
I tend towards fairness overall, so when I see comments that fly in the face of what I've seen/know/studied, it's hard for me to leave it alone.
Such as:
"There is no vast number of unreported rapes. That is a feminist fairy tale and I for one am tired of hearing it.

There is no way to know the former. There's no such thing as the latter. What's an unreported false something? I think you meant an epidemic of false reports; not the lack thereof.
I don't support radical anything, so when I back something, I want to be able to back it fully.
(I do the same on fem sites.)
Speaking of contraversy, what happened to commentary on the Craiglist fantasy rape case?
I was very curious to see what your opinion would be on it, Mr. Harlan.
There is no way to know the former. There's no such thing as the latter.

Bullshit. Practically everything that comes out of a feminist's mouth is a fairy tale.
And if there really was a vast, vast pool of unreported rapes then the rape statistics would be very different. But that's fine, enjoy your hallucinations, based on nothing but your mangina flappings.
