GALESBURG —
Police have found a teenager’s claim that she was abducted and sexually assaulted Wednesday morning to be false.A 16-year-old Galesburg resident told police Wednesday that she was abducted by a Middle-eastern man while she was walking to Galesburg High School for a driver’s education class. She told police he raped her in a mobile home and dropped her off at Walgreen’s.
But police said the victim’s statements on the alleged sexual assault were inconsistent. After an investigation that included conducting interviews, searching the residence and processing evidence, police indicated the initial report of an abduction was untrue.
The report comes in the wake of another teenage girl who reported being sexually assaulted near Monmouth Boulevard. The case involving the 15-year-old Galesburg resident is still under investigation.

Of course. So what else it new?
The false claims need to be punished severely and consistently.
It is the perversion of law enforcement protocol that has evolved over the last 25 years that has fostered this "false rape culture" we are now in.
I will never understand why people lie about such things. What possesses someone to make up something like that and watch someone be possibly prosecuted and even convicted for it? Then again, I suppose you could equally ask what possesses people to rape or murder others and do other horrific things.
Imagine a girl who enjoyed manipulating people constantly as she was growing up, and whose punishment when she was caught was a big hug and a promise to 'help her.' Even though her lies had resulted in the other kids being blamed for things that she had done.
You now understand Crystal Mangum.
I mean, I don't understand how people can be so heartless and selfish - sit back and watch someone's life fall to pieces just so they can get attention and "a big hug and a promise to help".
