A flashback: On April 20, 2006, Media Matters for America, the self-described "progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media," reported the following:
O'Reilly stated that alleged Duke rape victim "put herself in jeopardy".
The accuser, who turned out to be a bald-faced liar, was the "victim," according to this organization.
Now here's a quote from Bill O'Reilly, the populist political pundit. Guess which portion Media Matters for America thinks is offensive?
One of the players charged, Collin Finnerty, may be a violent guy. Last November, he was allegedly involved in an assault on a man in Washington, D.C., for absolutely no reason. And he entered a diversionary program.
Fighting, drinking to excess, and generally ignoring social boundaries always leads to bad, unintended consequences. Always.
Likewise, a 27-year-old woman put herself in jeopardy. She has two young kids to support and no fathers in sight. So, in order to earn money, she chooses to go to strange places and disrobe in front of strange men. Do the math.
That's right. Media Matters was OK with the slam against one of the lacrosse boys. It took offense at the slam against the false rape accuser.
On April 14, 2006, Media Matters wrote this:
Savage called alleged Duke rape victim a "dirty, verminous black stripper" . . ..
For our friends in England, Michael Savage is the demonically brilliant US-based conservative talk-meister who was banned from traveling to your country. Seriously -- banned (so much for freedom and all that crap, eh fellows?). I am certain many of our readers loathe and detest Savage. Savage is over-the-top vicious, and smart, and funny. Regardless of how you feel about him, read what he said about Duke Lacrosse -- and what Media Matters found offensive:
SAVAGE: There's another story that's very important to show you the twisting of justice in America, the lack of justice in America, and the viciousness of prosecutors in America, and how the cards are stacked against white males in America; and that is the case in North Carolina where a Durham dirt-bag made false accusations against members of a lacrosse team. DNA evidence was collected -- has proven to show that there was no reference to any rape.
. . . .
SAVAGE: We have here now the voice of a so-called student body president. Listen carefully.
RENEE CLARK (NCCU student body president) [audio clip]: Students at NCCU, alongside with students from Duke, know that it is time to come together to ensure that justice is served. No longer will sexual assault against women, sexual injustice, or any timeless -- or the timeless of due process be issues that render the legal outcome of current --
SAVAGE: Now, wait a minute. Hold on. This idiot can't even read a three-syllable word, but I think what this moron -- this sub-moron -- just said is that due process should have no bearing upon the outcome of the case because they're guilty, because she wants them to be guilty. Go ahead. Continue.
CLARK [audio clip]: This entire ordeal has been played out in the media from evidential findings to the character of the parties involved.
SAVAGE: Hold it. She said because of the character of the parties involved, they're guilty? Did you hear what this thing just said? This thing just said that their character has convicted them. This is the same person that if one of her brethren were brought into a court room, who had previously conducted crimes, these previous crimes would not be permitted to be issued as evidence, because it would be discriminatory or prejudicial, but she said she knows that they're guilty because of their character? Are you listening to what these people are saying to -- about these boys down there? Listen. Go ahead.
CLARK [audio clip]: Things that the media has not turned its attention to is the commonality of incidences such as this on campuses worldwide, in our communities, in our nation, and around the world.
SAVAGE: Hold on. Campuses worldwide are now going to influence the outcome of this case? This is the radical, feminist, lesbian agenda being acted out on our campuses in a witch-hunt manner against these white boys, very much like the socialist communist agenda being acted out on the American stage by the extras called the illegal aliens. I hope you understand what's going on in your country. And the reason it's happening, is because George Bush is such a weak leader, and because the Republicans have ceased to exist as a party that there is a power vacuum into which jump these opportunistic infections.
. . . .
SAVAGE: Now, in America, you're supposed to be innocent until you're proven guilty. They take 20 boys, they take their DNA because a dirty, verminous black stripper says she -- the -- she was raped and beaten. They do the DNA, none of her -- none of their DNA is found on this woman.

This would be amusing if it wasn't so tragic: Media Matters on false rape claims

It's guilty until proven innocent -- if you're a man. (Unless you're still considered guilty afterwards!)
But if you're a woman, you get a free pass on false rape reporting even if they have absolute proof of guilt.
We are living in a new world of gender-based lies and injustice.
OT- Anybody see this over at Glenn Sacks? This is an article about how our nice "convervative" state of Arizona -- you know, the one that's "saving" us from the illegal immigrants and their dirty patriarchal, traditionalist ways? -- is now arbitrarily increase men's child support payments by 76%: http://www.glennsacks.com/blog/
(July 7, 2010 entry)
The State of Arizona is poised to implement radical changes to its child support guidelines. The result will be sharp increases in levels of child support most dads are required to pay. The result will also be further inducement for mothers to file for divorce, thus increasing the divorce rate. Put simply, it is the intention of the new guidelines to ignore the actual cost of raising children and focus on transferring income from the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent.
Glenn and Robert do a tremendous service, but it's an uphill battle.
It's very easy to restribute someone else's wealth when that somebody has been demonized. Most men, even, are A-OK with divorced dads being slammed because even men buy into this crap about "manning" up and being responsible fathers, etc.
I know of so many women who live off of usually two or more men paying child support. The men seem to accept their lot. The women sit home and take themselves out of the workforce. Then when the kids are grown and the women lose their gravy train, they are the first to complain about not being paid what a man is paid. A man who has worked non-stop the previous 18 years.
It seems that feminists will have to learn the hard way that you cannot squeeze blood from a stone.
When the state cannot afford to pay single mothers, and the ex-husbands cannot, the state might throw the men in jail, but neither can simply produce money out of thin air.
Of course, this may be why some feminists have openly advocated for forced labour of men, to pay for women. No, I'm not kidding. They have advocated slavery. And this was in the mainstream media, not some backwards-ass feminist blog.
Feminism leading the way back to slavery. Who would have thought? The simpler and more humane option would be for women to just, y'know, maybe get jobs themselves, but something tells me that idea will be considered 'misogynistic', as is anything or anyone who suggests that women might be human beings, with all the responsibilities that entails.
You say the color of the Duke liar isn't relevant???? I've got one question: How long did it take for the Hofstra Rape Hoax to die down and how long did the Duke Rape Hoax take?
Concerned Android
Concerned Android: point taken. In Durham, the race of the victims was what caused their demonization.
Media Matters also pointed out that Tucker Carlson called the Duke accuser a "crypto-hooker". Which liberal feminists continue to mention as an example of how rape victims aren't believed and supported. Even though, as it turned out, she wasn't a rape victim and did work as a prostitute.
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200604120013
Yet, Media Matters and the liberal feminists don't seem to care that the Huffington Post described Al Gore's accuser as a prostitute.

Anon, excellent point. The Gore-Duke contrast is a point I have been thinking about. As I've said on this blog, I personally think that the Gore coverage is closer to the way it should be for all men accused of rape, but we know that's not how it goes. We know that the double standards are blatant, depending on whether the accused male fits the stereotype of "oppressor," as envisioned by the progressive, enlightened, middle America-loathing left. A white male jock attending an expensive university fits the profile; the most beloved liberal in America does not. It's that simple.
Nina Burleigh article ==
Best piece of work I've seen in a long time ===
Clever, wry, homorous and suggestive. What a writer.

I hardly think that's meaningful, considering that there was a video recording in the Hofstra case but not at Duke.
This issue is about men, not just white men. Al Gore HAS BEEN SCREWED -- make no mistake about that.
The Republicans are doing NOTHING, just as the Democrats are doing NOTHING.
OT- I just wanted to ask all of the regulars -- have you made a small donation to the men's rights group of your choice this year? We all need to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
The Innocence Project is an excellent choice: https://secure2.convio.net/ip/site/Donation2?df_id=1160&1160.donation=form1
On that website, there is also a form that you can use to Email your senators and congressman regarding a possible blue ribbon commission to fix our criminal justice system.
There are a group of perverts down at Duke University that get "Empowered" by faulty and inflamatory Rape hysteria.
I have heard that the gay male
Duke university
professor who was caught trying to sell his adopted son on the internet to other peodophiles was such a staunch gender feminist that he would not even speak to hetero-male students on campus.
I think color DOES matters in these cases.
We all seem to remember tawana Brawley and Crystal Mangum, but I can't name a single 'exposed' false accuser that is white. Most probably because there are so many - and I'll bet the farm far more white women falsely accuse than black.
I don't believe there is a single DNA exoneration where a black woman's lie wrongly convicted a white man.
The count continues to climb for white women's lies convicting black men.
The Duke accuser could just as easily been a white prostitute/"stripper". These cases are memorable because they are so rare.
Just to note: the Duke accusations were the second time Crystal Mangum had made a(n almost identical) false claim of gang-rape. If she had been punished the first time, maybe the second time wouldn't have happened. (Her credibility should have been nil.)
And player Finnerty was trying to be a peacemaker in a sidewalk scuffle involving some friends, when he was hit from behind and knocked down (which resulted in him using some non-PC language but not striking anyone).
The local US Atty, Ken Wainstein, was already under fire for treating whites better than minorities (even though he had just let Cynthia McKinney skate) and he was up for a Senate confirmation for another position.
At Finnerty's trial his accusers changed their stories, police "remembered" new facts which weren't in their notes, the chief defense witness was prohibited from testifying, and the result was a verdict which satisfied the public's expectations (if not justice).
If anyone thinks a rich white preppie male athlete, the son of a New York Wall St. honcho (all unpopular categories) can get a fair trial when accused of assaulting a poor working woman of color, mother of two, and navy veteran (as St. Mangum was being portrayed), then you don't realize the pressures on prosecutors to placate public opinion.

Absolutely. Ashley Todd belongs in prison just as surely as Crystal Mangum.

First of all, I don't think ANY man can get a fair trial when charged with rape anywhere in the western world; but doesn't the racial bias depend on the jurisdiction?
Anon @ 8:28, most ppl STILL don't know crystal mangum by name, because the media (@ least for the longest time) wouldn't name her. The tawana brawley and duke cases were famous BEFORE the men were proven innocent, and EVERYONE heard about these "rapes." Now riddle me this: why did they become so (in)famous right away?
Because it was a media dream come true. It was the story of the evil, well off, powerful (lol) white men raping the poor black woman. And al-not-so-sharpton made sure that ppl. didn't forget about the tawana brawley story and did everything to cast doubt in the public's mind in both Duke and Brawley lies that "something" must have happened.
Concerned Android
You're right, Android; and the New York Times coverage of Duke was despicable.
