de facto end of summer, and everyone's attention seems to be focused on "back to school" and reverting to a routine. Thus, our posting has slowed here at FRS -- but not because we're not working. After Labor Day, aside from our regular reporting on news stories of false rape claims, we're also going to be tackling some more ambitious topics.
As we approach the one year anniversary of the Hofstra false rape claim, we've been working on what amounts to a mini-book,
Lambs To The Slaughter: The Hofstra False Rape Claim, which we'll post here on the site on September 10. It is easily our most important post ever.

The moral panic and hysteria surrounding sexual issues has given rights and privileges to one group (primarily women and children) at the expense of another group (mostly men and boys). But let it be said that women are NOT immune to false accusations, too. Consider the recent case of Tonya Craft:

Funny you should refer to the Hofstra guys as Lambs To The Slaughter.
I've always refered to those ensnared by the system (not ALL innocent men are "just" falsely accused, bear in mind. Many innocent ones are convicted) as Sacrificial Lambs. Their lives are given to served The Cause.
Anon, absolutely correct. I am almost finished writing my Hofstra piece -- which is equivalent in length to about 20 regular posts -- and I hope it can be used as a permanent reference for a long time to come. It is a miscrocosm of the entire false rape problem, and the story is relatively easy to tell because it played out over the course of 12 days, so we can get our arms around it. Let me tell you, writing it left me shaken. It is a chilling, astounding display of police and news media arrogance. They basically got everything wrong -- "rush to judgment" and "witch hunt" aren't adequate to describe the despicable way LE and the news media handled this. The sad part is, as you suggest, Hofstra had a relatively "happy ending." Too many cases don't.
I'll run it Friday September 10th, leading up to the first anniversary of the event.
